| Thanks to Chris
Coursey for the following NTHSGCA minutes from the August 16
meeting at Flower Mound High School. |
|
Minutes:
The meeting
was called to order at 9:00 AM by newly elected president Joe
Mounger of Richardson Pearce High School. Mounger introduced
the new board: Vice President Lisa Sadler of Frisco Centennial,
Secretary Chris Coursey of Mansfield High, and Treasurer Roddy
Adams of Denton Guyer. After introductions, Mounger entertained
from the floor any new business that needs to be discussed. No
new business was presented. Lisa Sadler took the floor and
presented outgoing Mark Wendel of Justin Northwest a plaque of
appreciation. A standing ovation was given to Wendel for his
two years of service by the members of the association. Sadler
then discussed the new format for tournament entry flyers.
NTHSGCA will become a paperless entry form association by
members submitting entry forms online to the board and then the
flyers will be posted to the website to be downloaded for future
use. Sadler noted that there will be glitches in the process,
but the kinks will eventually be worked out. Joe Mounger
requested that all tournament entry forms and results be sent in
.PDF format in order to make it easier to post to the website.
Sadler also presented information on pace of play at
tournaments, including having golfers with less experience
practice continuous putting (putting until holing out) to speed
up play. Chris Coursey then discussed the membership process of
the NTHSGCA and the uses of membership dues including
reimbursing host schools for food and drink items, scholarships
and website fees. Coursey stated that only members would have
access to the “master list” of tournaments for the fall and/or
spring golf seasons. Coursey recognized Lynn Monzingo and Dave
Jones of the TJGT and reminded members to stop by and pick up a
Nike® golf hat donated by the TJGT for the meeting. Jerry
Crumpton, president of the Texas Association of Golf Coaches and
boy’s golf coach at McKinney Boyd presented important
information he has received from the UIL and the various
statewide coaching organizations. Crumpton spoke about the
continued request for the coaches to be able to coach players
during the rounds at district, regional and state tournaments.
Crumpton also informed the NTHSGCA of a suggestion for 3 teams
to represent each region at the State Golf Tournament. This
suggestion was made by UIL administrator, Peter Contreras, who
oversees the sport of golf. Crumpton delivered the message that
we should become members of the TAGC, support the cause and all
golf coaches must unite as a whole across the state in order to
affect change in the future for the game of golf. All coaches
can contact Jason Jezek, vice president of TAGC at 281-380-5700
in order to see if they are members of TAGC or to seen when
their memberships expire. Jerry also presented information in
conjunction with Lynn Monzingo on the development of a new
website for the TAGC. The website will contain information
pertaining to statewide tournament schedules and results,
rankings of players, videos of player swings, specific drills,
rules tests and much more. The TJGT will pay for and maintain
the website in return for coaches keeping the website updated
and complete. The website is scheduled to go online 9/1/08.
After Lynn Monzingo presented TJGT and website info, the NTHSGCA
voted for Coach of the Year honors. Andrea Crane from Highland
Park was voted girls coach of the year for her teams upset
victory over the heavily favored Montgomery team in the 4A state
tournament. On the boy’s side, Rick Hardison of Plano West won
the honors for his team’s dominant performances throughout the
entire 2007-2008 year. After the Coach of the Year vote, Roddy
Adams took nominations and votes for next spring’s meeting. It
was decided that the meeting will take place on January 10, 2008
at Newman-Smith High School. Joe Mounger then adjourned the
meeting for individual district meetings.
